THIEVES® ESSENTIAL OIL

Thieves is the most amazing blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, and into-infectious essential oils.

It was created from research based on legends about a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying.  When apprehended, the thieves were forced to tell what their secret was and disclose the formula of the herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment.

Studies conducted during 1997 at Weber State University in Ogden, UT, demonstrated the killing power of these amazing oils against airborne microorganisms.  The analysis showed that after 10 minutes of Thieves diffusion in the air, there was an 82% reduction in the gram positive Micrococcus lutes organism bioaerosol, a 96% reduction in gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa organism bioaerosol, and a 44% reduction in S. aureus bioaerosol.

Thieves Ingredients:

Clove - one of the most antimicrobial, antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral and anti-infectious of all essential oils.

Lemon - has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that amplify immunity.  It promotes circulation, leukocyte formation, and lymphatic function.

Cinnamon Bark - one of the most power antiseptics known and is strongly antibacterial, antiviral and anti fungal.

Eucalyptus Radiata - anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal.

Rosemary - is antiseptic and antimicrobial.  It is high in cineole which is a key ingredient in antiseptic drugs.

You may see a pattern here when reading what each individual ingredient is used for.  There are a lot of essential oils which are good for the same uses. Now just imagine how powerful they are when they are together in a Blend!

Essential Oils create an unfriendly environment which becomes deadly to disease causing bacteria, viruses and other pathogens in the air.

Here are some ways you can use this amazing essential oil:

Diffuse

You might hear me say “this is my favorite oil” and I promise you when I say it, I mean it.  I just say it for so many of them because they are all equally amazing and I just can’t help myself.

USB Diffuser for Car/Office
I really never thought I would be the type of person who would be big on diffusing.  Well, was I wrong!  Diffusing essential oils have therapeutic benefits.  Many forms of bacteria linked to many of the common ailments we get, travel through the air.  Diffusing Thieves actually purifies the air while adding an uplifting scent to your home, office, or car.

A little insight on how the inhalation of products that we use every day affect your body......
The Olfactory System
The olfactory system includes all physical organs or cells relating to, or contributing to, the sense of smell. When we inhale through the nose, airborne molecules interact with the olfactory organs and, almost immediately, the brain.  Molecules inhaled through the nose or mouth are also carried to the lungs and interact with the respiratory system. Thus, inhaled essential oils can affect the body through several systems and pathways.

Interaction with the Limbic System (Emotional Brain)

During inhalation, odor molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the limbic system, which is commonly referred to as the "emotional brain."
The limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance. This relationship helps explain why smells often trigger emotions. Knowing this, we can hypothesize how inhalation of essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects!

One of my absolute favorite Thieves Products is…… no, my 3 favorites are……

Thieves Household Cleaner
Thieves Mouthwash
Thieves Toothpaste

Okay….. 4

Laundry Detergent

Oh, heck, I love them all.  They are ALL my favorites.

The Household Cleaner is unbelievable.  It’s a concentrate that you mix in your own spray bottle.  I clean everything with it.  And by everything, I mean everything.  My shower sparkles.  You know the commercials they have for toothpaste and how the light sparkles off the person’s teeth?  Yea, that’s what the cleaner does for my shower, sinks, tub and toilet.  I use it for my countertops in the bathrooms and kitchen.  Do you know what I like the most about Thieves Household Cleaner?  You can go from bathrooms, to kitchen, to your wood tables, to your glass windows all with one cleaner.  Oh, and I forgot to mention my wood floors.  And the aroma that fills your house is just heavenly.  You can throw out all of your household cleaners (you know, the ones that omit those toxic fumes) and just use Thieves for everything.  You are actually breathing in good instead of bad. So cleaning actually makes you healthier, who knew!!

A few more uses…..

  • Add to the water in your vacuum steamer to cleanse the air and disinfect the carpet/floors.
  • Spray along ant trails or around windows and doors in the house to keep them out.

  • All teachers, in my opinion, should be using this in their classrooms to wipe downs desks and supplies to keep the children healthy.
  • Soak off burnt food in pots and skillets.
  • Wipe or soak garbage cans to get them clean, sanitary and smelling fresh.
  • For tough stains, pour it on as a pre-wash stain remover.
  • Use undiluted to clean and kill mold on walls and floors or degrease oven.

SEED TO SEAL - IS WHY I WILL ONLY USE YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS

Before diving into writing more about individual oils, I would like to take a moment to tell you why Young Living has the best Essential Oils on the Planet.  When using Essential Oils for yourself, your children and your pets, why would you want to use anything that isn’t guaranteed to be 100% pure?

As we begin to understand the power of essential oils in the realm of personal, holistic health care, we will appreciate the necessity for obtaining the purest essential oils possible.  For this reason, the entire process of obtaining oils must be carefully watched over from the beginning to the end.  No matter how costly pure essential oils may be, there can be no substitutes.

Just as chemists can synthetically “copycat” the constituents of a pure essential oil, many essential oil companies today label their oils “therapeutic”, even though they buy from anonymous brokers and have no experience in meeting any standards.  Young Living was the first to establish guidelines that define what a therapeutic essential oil is and to create oils that met or exceeded any known medicinal standard.

Grades of Essential Oils

  • Synthetic or nature-identical oils (created in a laboratory)

  • Extended or altered oils (fragrance grade)

  • Natural oils and certified oils (pass oil-standard tests but may not contain any or just a few therapeutic compounds).

  • Therapeutic-grade essential oils (pure, medicinal, steam-distilled essential oils containing all desired therapeutic compounds.
Synthetic or nature-identical oils are commonplace in the market and can be created cheaply and then sold in places like health food and drug stores or novelty and tourist shops for a very low price.  They have no therapeutic efficacy and may even be harmful.  For instance, fragrance-grade lavender may have a harmful effect instead of a healing effect on newly burned skin.

Extended or altered oils may have an essential oil base but are “enhanced” with certain lab-created constituents to increase volume or fragrance.  Due to chemical impurities or an antagonistic balance among oil constituents, these oils may be either ineffective or even cause negative effects.

“Natural” and “organic” oils focus on growing in a natural, chemical-free environment but are not concerned with exactness of the time of harvest and the distillation to maximize the therapeutic potency of an essential oil.  Such oils may be labeled “100% Pure Certified” or “Natural” but may have sub therapeutic values, and because of the 2011 decision to allow genetically modified alfalfa to be planted anywhere, the very word “organic” may soon not guarantee freedom from GMO contamination.  If one GMO plant is approved, the door has been opened.

And here we go…… A very short explanation of the reason Young Living Essential Oils are the best on the Planet!

SEED TO SEAL

The Seed to Seal process is Young Living’s trademark.

Young Living Essential Oils is the only company dedicated to the medicinal use and application of essential oils that is able to guarantee essential oil quality from seed to seal.

The oils that Young Living provides to consumers are extracted through steam distillation from a wide variety of plants, roots, bushes, trees, and resins and are as powerful and pure as the botanicals from which they are derived.

The life-giving energy of the essential oils that is carefully distilled from nature cannot be duplicated in a sterile laboratory. Synthetic constituents may be similar in structure but have none of the living plant energy that holds the God-given medicinal value of the oil that is realized from the plant itself.

SEED

Herbs are selected for the proper genus, species and chemotype.  Whether seeking Clove oil from Madagascar, Cistus oil from Spain or Helichrysum oil from Corsica, Young Living experts constantly travel across the globe to verify plant, cultivation and extraction quality to ensure absolute integrity of the essential oil.

CULTIVATION

Young Living’s essential oils are extracted from both wildcrafted and cultivated herbs, from established partnerships with growers and distillers all over the world.  Some oils come from herbs cultivated in rural areas of countries such as Madagascar, Indonesia and Brazil, harvested by indigenous people, who have untold years of experience with the plants and their growing conditions.  Other oils come from Young Living farms in Ecuador, France and the United States, where organic practices are adhered to with great care and exactness.

ORGANIC HERB FARMING

The key to producing oils with genuine therapeutic quality starts with the proper cultivation of the herbs in the field.

Plants should be grown on virgin land uncontaminated by chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides.  They should be grown away from nuclear plants, factories, interstates, highways and heavily populated cities, if possible.

Because robust, healthy plants produce higher quality essential oils, the soil should be nourished with enzymes, minerals and organic mulch.  The mineral content of the soil is crucial to the proper development of the plant, and soils that lack minerals result in plants that produce inferior oils.

Land and crops should be watered with deep well, reservoir or water shed water.  Mountain stream water is best because of it’s purity and high mineral content.  Municipally treated water or secondary run off water from residential and commercial areas can introduce undesirable chemical residues into the plant and the essential oil.

Different varieties of plants produce different qualities of oils.  Only those plants that produce the highest quality of essential oil should be selected.

HARVESTING

The timing of the harvest is one of the most important factors in the production of therapeutic grade oils.  If the plants are harvested at the wrong time of the season or even at the incorrect time of day, they may distill into a substandard essential oil.  In some instances, changing harvest time, by even a few hours, can make a huge difference.  For example, German Chamomile harvested in the morning will produce oil with far more azulene (a powerful anti-inflammatory compound) than if it is harvested in the late afternoon.

Other factors taken into consideration during the harvest include the amount of dew on the leaves, the percentage of plant in bloom, and weather conditions during the two weeks prior to harvest.

DISTILLATION

A master distiller must oversee the entire process by harvesting at just the right time for the plant maturity and distilling with the proper temperature, pressure and time, which varies with different plant material.  Young Living often experiments with innovative distillation techniques on its farms to maximize therapeutic potency of the oils.  Other oils are distilled traditionally, using techniques that have been passed down through generations from father to son.

There are several different types of distillation processes; Simple distillation, Hydro distillation, Traditional distillation.

TESTING

At Young Living, each essential oil must pass extensive testing to ensure an optimal bioactive profile.  Young Living uses its own internal labs, as well as third party testing from essential oil experts in other countries, to validate the purity and potency of essential oils.

SEALING

The final step in Young Living’s Seed to Seal process is carefully sealing each bottle of essential oil in Young Living’s own clean room facility and shipping it to members worldwide.

Literally, from the plant seed that is dropped into the soil to the essential oil sealed in the amber bottle in Young Living’s clean room, the Seed to Seal process is carefully supervised from beginning to end to ensure quality and purity of Young Living pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils.

LAVENDER - THE SWISS ARMY KNIFE OF OILS

First of all I would like to welcome you to my Blog.  All of the Oils I will be speaking are Young Living Essential Oils.  Anything you see or read here does not apply to any other Essential Oils on the market.  I know that Young Living’s Essential Oils are 100% Pure and I do not know that about other oils out there.  So please don’t expect the same results, or ingest any other oils unless they are Young Living and are labeled as a Dietary Supplement.

To begin, I am going to talk about Lavender today. It is one of the most versatile oils there is, which is why they call it the Swiss Army Knife of Oils.

Young Living’s Lavender Plants are grown in Utah, Idaho and France.  The plant is steam distilled from the flowering top.

A French scientist was the first to discover Lavender’s ability to promote tissue regeneration and speed wound healing when he severely burned his arm in a laboratory explosion.  Today, Lavender is one of the few essential oils to still be listed in the British Pharmacopeia, which is an annual published collection of quality standards for UK medicinal substances.  It is used by individuals and organizations involved in pharmaceutical research, development, manufacture and testing.

The medical properties of Lavender are: Antiseptic, anti fungal, analgesic, antitumoral, anticonvulsant, vosadilating, relaxant, anti-inflammatory, reduces blood fat/cholestoral, combats excess sebum on skin.

You can use Lavender for (to name a few) Respiratory infections, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, menstrual problems/PMS, skin conditions (perineal repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring, stretch marks), burns, hair loss, insomnia, and nervous tension.

The fragrant influence of Lavender is calming, relaxing and balancing; both physically and emotionally.  Lavender has been documented to improve concentration and mental acuity.

University of Miami researchers found that inhalation of lavender oil increased beta waves in the brain, suggesting heightened relaxation.  It also reduced depression and improved cognitive performance.  A 2001 Osaka Kyoiku University study found that Lavender reduced mental stress and increased alertness.

Lavender can be applied Neat (directly to skin), on chakras and/or Vita Flex points (which is something we will talk about later).  You can also inhale it directly, diffuse or take as a dietary supplement.

I have personally used Lavender every single day since I began using Young Living Essential Oils.  In most cases, I use it more than once per day.  It truly is an amazing oil.

I could write all day about my personal usages with Lavender and the results that I have had.  I will give you a few examples of why it is a great Essential Oil to have around the house.

1) Stops Snoring…… yes, you heard me right.  If you’ve ever been woken up or just couldn’t sleep because someone was snoring, you have to get a diffuser and you have to diffuse lavender.  My Young Living Diffuser, which I got in my Premium Starter Kit when I purchased it, lasts for about 8 hours if I diffuse it on 30 second interments during the night.  It goes on about 11:00 pm and runs out between 6:45 and 7:00 am.

2) You will sleep like a baby. I’ve never had a better night sleep. And that has been true from the first day I started diffusing it at night.  A funny story that I like to tell is…… the first day that my Kit arrived, I set my diffuser up for the night.  Bob and I went to bed and we both conked right out.  Now normally, 1, 2 or 3 of my 5 cats wakes me up in the morning.  When I woke up that next morning, I slowly opened my eyes, looked at all my cats on the bed and floor (STILL SLEEPING), looked at Bob (Bob was looking back at me), and I asked him how he slept.  We both agreed we slept liked rocks and I had to wake my cats up because they were still asleep.  First time ever!

So my days goes on, and my phone just never stops ringing during the day.  I spoke with 2 friends who commented on how bad the storm was the night before.  Well, I sure didn’t hear any storm.  I asked Bob if he heard it and he said no. So I go on with my day and when my son got home from work and came to pick London up, I asked him if he heard the storm last night.  He said “how could you not…. it was so bad I thought my windows were going to blow out”.  The only thing I could do is laugh. That, my friends, is how good this Lavender is when you diffuse it.

3) Bee Stings, Mosquito Bites, no problem.  One drop of Lavender, and the itch or sting is gone immediately.  I got bit by a mosquito last week for the first time in many years.  I had 2 big bites and I put a drop of Lavender on it and in 10 minutes it was 80% gone. An hour later, it was gone completely.  No sign of it.

Lavender has so many uses.  I use it in my diffuser necklace and I apply it to my wrists, just for a peaceful, calming feeling when I need it throughout my day.  I also use it to make my own facial moisturizer and lip balm, I put it into my mascara bottle, make foaming hand soap…… I could go on and on.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the benefits of Lavender.  If I could build a house on a Lavender field, I would.  I would probably be like Dorothy in the poppy field and sleep my life away! But a peaceful life it would be.
